“‘I tell you solemnly, there is no one who has left house, brothers, sisters, father, children or land for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not be repaid a hundred times over, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and land – not without persecutions – now in this present time and, in the world to come, eternal life.” In today’s gospel Jesus tells us a remarkable thing. Our eternal reward is not just for later after we die: it is to start being received now. “Now in this present time”, Jesus says. This is wonderful news. I don’t have to wait till after I’m dead for my life to get better: Jesus offers already to me now the taste and experience of infinite goodness, peace, assurance and love. Let’s choose again to open our lives up to him in everything today, that we can already start living off what he wants to give us today.
